I, like so many other women, am trying to slim down and shed some of this extra weight I piled on over the years. However, being a busy single mom, when do I have time to get to the gym every day or have the money to pay for membership? My goal is to be more active and increase my steps. Here are 5 ways to increase your steps to help shed those unwanted pounds.
PARKING LOTS: How many times do we drive around and around the parking lot trying to get a space closest to the door at a grocery store or mall? Find the furthest spot to park and walk those extra steps to the door.
SHOPPING MALLS: Try parking on the other side of the Mall far away from where the store where you will shop. This will give you extra steps while you walk through the mall. Just try not to do any additional shopping and stick to your budget. TIP: See tip #1 and park in the furthest spot to gain even more steps in the day.
WORK WALKING BUDDY: Many times we will walk more when we have someone to talk with. Ask your co-workers to go for a walk during your lunch break. TIP: Try walking around the building during your morning and afternoon breaks as well for extra steps.
STAIRS: Instead of taking the elevator use the stairs for those extra steps. This can work at home as well. My laundry room in on my main floor and I take small armfuls of clothing upstairs to put away. This helps me achieve my step goals by making several trips up and down my stairs.
WALKING VIDEOS: If you like to watch workout videos, how about trying a walking video? One of my favorites video is the 3 Fast & Fun Miles – Walk at Home Workout. The good thing about this video is that it and similar videos can be found on YouTube for free.
